HURLEY, Va. (WDBJ) - UPDATE: HHS and HEMS are closed through Friday to allow for proper accommodations to be provided for Hurley High School students to move to HEMS for daily classes due to fire damage to the school.

All staff are to still work through Friday.

According to McClanahan, “Backpacks left in building will be released once we have permission from the Fire marshal. ** Principal Pam will work with students to retrieve those once we are given the ok to do so!”

EARLIER: Hurley High School students were evacuated Tuesday after a fire on the grounds, according to Angie Ward McClanahan of the North Grundy School Board.

All students were deemed safe and were sent to the middle school.

Parents were allowed to pick up the students or await bus trips that were scheduled for regular times and routes.
