Soon after, a Virginia State Police trooper saw a Jeep being driven east on A.L. Philpott Hwy. at a high rate of speed. The trooper tried to pull the driver over, but the driver continued speeding, leading the trooper on a pursuit. The driver of the Jeep then lost control and crashed at the intersection of Whispering Pines and Sugar Tree Church Road in Pittsylvania County. Three males got out of the Jeep and ran off.

The Jeep Commander had been stolen from Danville October 22. Investigators say evidence from the robbery was recovered from inside the Jeep.
